How are we dealing with Mass Shootings?

There has been a total of 816 deaths in mass killings… since 1982.

In the gun control mecca, Chicago, they had 943 murders in 1992 alone! In one year!

But let's review some of the worse events at schools in the last couple decades.

The Columbine shooting on April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, occurred when two teens went on a shooting spree, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others, before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide.

The Sandy Hook shooting was, at the time, the second-deadliest mass shooting in the United States after the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech, in which a gunman killed 32 students and teachers before committing suicide. (history.com)

On December 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Adam Lanza kills 20 first graders and six school employees before turning a gun on himself. Earlier that day, he killed his mother at the home they shared. (history.com)

A gunman targeted a 4th grade class at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, killing 21 and injuring 17. It was the deadliest school shooting in America since Sandy Hook. (npr.org)

What are the possible reasons for a young man or group of men to go to a school and kill children and teachers? Why it happens so often these days? Should the congress pass new laws to regulate gun purchasing? Should the government take the guns away, like it happened in Cuba with Fidel Castro or in Venezuela by Chavez? Or should we follow our constitutional right to bear arms, according to the second amendment, to protect ourselves and necessary for the security of a free state?

Fidel Castro made his victorious post-revolution entry into Havana, Cuba on January 8, 1959. The next day, Castro's regime began collecting guns and disarming the population. From Castro's address of January 9, 1959: I appeal to the public to disarm the ambitious.

Not long ago, millions of Venezuelans decided to become loved by the left and voted away their right to keep and bear arms. But now that their government has descended into a socialist nightmare where everyone is starving to death, these same people are now regretting their votes to give away their right to self-defense.

The Venezuelan rulers – like their Cuban masters – apparently viewed citizen possession of arms as a potential danger to a permanent communist monopoly of power.”

It’s been six years since former socialist dictator Hugo Chavez banned Venezuela’s citizens (though not his military regime, of course) from owning or carrying guns. Originally sold to the public as a war against violence, the net effect has been a war against an unarmed Venezuelan population.

Maybe you agree with Ben Shapiro when he says on his show that we hope that mass shootings don’t happen again but unfortunately it does. Whether they are motivated by ideologies or they are just mentally sick individuals, they keep coming.

Apparently, according to studies, social media is a great motivation for these individuals to do what they do. They seek fame and recognition, and the mainstream media gives it to them. This motivates the future mass shooters to commit the same atrocities.

On events like the Uvalde mass shooting, the guns used by the perpetrator were legally purchased and the gun laws stablished were obviously violated. The laws are on the books but that of course doesn’t guarantee that are going to be enforced.

Colin Noir is an attorney, famous by his positions on gun control. He explains that are over 300 million guns in the United States and we are over 300 million people in the country. Some of these 300 million people are just bad people. These bad people will do bad things, either with or without laws. Every time that mass shootings occur, we decide to blame it on guns and gun owners. In the meanwhile, schools are still unprotected, teachers have no idea what to do in a situation like this and this results in more unfortunate deaths in schools.

“Laws only matters to people that are willing to obey them” “Gun Free Zone signs don’t keep guns out of school” Colin Noir.

Metal detectors enforced by an armed guard, trained teachers on medical emergency techniques and firearms should be the way we stopped this from happening. We can’t just pretend that eventually events like this will stop just because the congress passes a new gun control law.

Teachers and staff should learn how to stop bleeding, apply a tourniquet, treat a gunshot wound to protect themselves and the students against a mass shooter. This is not an option anymore. We must realize that a gun free zone school is just an easier target for a mass shooter. Teachers and school staff without training or protection are just easier targets. We should all know these basic medical skills. We can’t just pretend that everything will be fine if we call 911 because we don’t know how long it will take for the authorities to arrive and be able to do something. In the meanwhile, more children will die.

It's up to us to be more proactive about this situation in order to protect our children and not wait for the government to do something.
